In its 27^th issue The HSE Look presents the work of the Scientometrics Centre and how research results are measured at HSE. We also continue the tradition of interviews with international faculty and visiting scholars: five of them talk about their research and teaching projects in Moscow, Perm and Nizhniy Novgorod, and guests and speakers from the April Conference share their impressions of HSE’s flagship conference.

British Professor Sebastian Van Strien, who has come to Nizhny Novgorod HSE on a tutor exchange programme, is confident that this is the case. Professor van Strien is leading a research seminar for students studying mathematics.

In its 26^th issue The HSE Look introduces the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs and HSE’s Massive open online courses (MOOCs), with two professors sharing their experience of preparing and running MOOCs. We also start a new tradition of interviews with visiting scholars, and present to you the upcoming visits for March and April.

Academic and expert in the field of international higher education, Philip Altbach has been made Honorary Professor in a ceremony at HSE. Altbach began to study education in his youth because he believed it was a key factor to bring about change in society. Is it possible to take educational models which work well in some countries and copy them in others without making any alterations? What good are rankings and what shouldn’t we sacrifice for their sake? What gives HSE its competitive edge? Professor Altbach talked about all these issues in an interview with HSE News.

The HSE Look   is happy to promote upcoming short-term visits to HSE by international scholars,whichwere supported by institutional funding based on the hosting departments’ applications. The following visits are scheduled for October, November and early December.

HSE has been recruiting international faculty for several years now, but there are some novelties in 2015. The HSE Look is glad to present newly recruited faculty so as to help colleagues connect with each other: in the October issue we present faculty members who start their work in tenure-track positions, and will introduce this year’s post-docs in December.

The HSE Look previously wrote about the design of course syllabus, electronic Learning Management Support System (LMS) and Teaching Assistants in the issue 5(12) from May 2014 and covered top-10 features of Teaching at HSE, including the module structure, in the issue 4 (04) from September, 2013. To supplement the existing information on the system of exams and grading at HSE, we present to you additional guidelines to help you navigate the knowledge assessment regulations at the university.

In its 24th issue The HSE Look introduces the readers to the Faculty of Business and Management, to The Foresight Centre and to the new international faculty and visiting scholars. It also provides a guide to mid-term grading and covers the highlights of HSE Day and HSE’s international positioning efforts.
