Economics of sports was one of the topics featured at the recent April Academic Conference. A section led by HSE Deputy Vice Rector Dmitry Dagaev included sessions dedicated to financial and organizational regulation, competitive balance, and determinants of success in sport. Two of the sessions were moderated by international scholars, Prof. Dennis Coates and Dr. Tim Pawlowski, who have talked to HSE News about their research interests and the importance of sports in modern global economy.

These were the issues addressed by Duke University Professor Timur Kuran during his lecture on Historical Roots of Trust, Cooperation, and Development. Transformative action learning is a method widely used to equip leaders for the challenges they encounter in their organizations. In an upcoming honorary lecture and workshop as part of the XVII April Conference Robert Kramer, International Chair of Public Leadership at the National University of Public Service (Budapest, Hungary), will introduce audiences to the method. Ali Farazmand, Professor of Public Administration and Policy at Florida Atlantic University has long been interested in issues of public administration, public policy and governance. Ahead of his lecture at the XVII April Conference, Professor Farazmand speaks about his research interests and how he hopes to further develop collaborative relationships with Russian scholars.
This year, many students and staff of HSE in Moscow will change the location of their study and work. Instead of some sites in districts on the outskirts of the sity, the university is using buildings in the centre. In addition to that, faculty departments which are now scattered in various parts of the city will move closer to each other. This will allow lecturers and students to spend less time commuting.
Dr. Julián Cárdenas, a Researcher at Freie Universität Berlin, has devoted much of his career to studying business networks. A participant on the ‘Business Networks’ panel at the XVII April International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development on April 21, he recently agreed to speak with the HSE news service about his research interests, in particular his focus on elite business networks and how they differ around the world.
