Bringing Research to the City

Within its “University Open to the City” project HSE holds many different lectures and discussions at various city venues, such as Moscow museums and Cultural Centre ZIL. Following the successful experience of HSE Open Talks lectures at HSE Day in September for the last three years (see The HSE Look October 2015, September 2014), the university launched a regular English-speaking series of public lectures HSE Talks, held at a coworking café. From February to April five speakers from the Faculty of Social Sciences gave their public talks, and The HSE Look talked to one of them, Assistant Professor Ekim Arbatli,to learn more about the impressions from participation in the project.

April Conference: Overview of 18 years

HSE bulletin Okna Rosta took an interview with Professor Andrei Yakovlev, Director of the HSE Institute for Industrial and Market Studies and member of the Programme Committee of the April Conference on Economic and Social Development, about the origins of the conference and how it changed and expanded over the years.  The HSE Look is glad to present the summarized translation of the interview to its readers.

Running a Comparative Empirical Programme in Social Research

The HSE Look February 2017 - Drive for the Change

The February issue of  The HSE Look  is focused on how HSE makes its education model more flexible in response to global transformations, and two Academic Supervisors of English-taught programmes share their experience in an interview.   The HSE Look  also presents a new series of public events for discussions on philosophy, and the upcoming visits of guest scholars and lecturers to different HSE departments, as well as the open call for funding their visits.

Discussing Research Together

Joint efforts tend to bring better and more interesting results: that’s why the School of Philosophy has launched its Colloquium meetings where HSE faculty (both internationally and locally recruited) and visiting scholars will be presenting and discussing their research. The events are open to everyone, and the first talk, devoted to a popular for February topic of love, gathered faculty and students alike.

Teaching at HSE: Challenges and Opportunities

Adapting to a new university environment can be a difficult process, especially with such a thing as teaching classes, where not only teacher’s own abilities but also formal requirements and the academic culture of the institution come into play. In previous issues of The HSE Look (October 2015, May 2014, September 2013) we covered different aspects of teaching at HSE, such as the module system, assessment regulations, syllabus design, finding teaching assistants and using electronic Learning Management System.
