The latest issue of the HSE LooK brings the Faculty of Mathematics into the spotlight. The Dean of the Faculty, Professor Sergei Lando, speaks about mathematical education in Russia then and now and gives his insights into the academic life of the mathematical collective. Nathan Marcus, Assistant Professor of History, recently joined the HSE campus in St. Petersburg. A scholar of Modern European History, he has a book that will soon be published by Harvard University Press. The article was coauthored by Alexandros Vardoulakis, Economist at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.

Karl Bruckmeier is an environmental sociologist and since 2011 he has been a professor at the Analysis of Social Institutions Department at the HSE Faculty of Social Sciences. He talked to the HSE English News Service about the challenges of being an interdisciplinary academic and about the pace of change in Russia in attitudes towards the environment.
