‘I Feel Right at Home in Russia’

HSE’s Nizhny Novgorod campus has a new professor. Invited Professor Rajarshi Mitra teaches advanced microeconomics to master’s and Ph.D. students, as well as time series analysis and the academic seminar ‘Econometric Analysis and Modeling in Economics and Finance.’ Professor Mitra comes to the HSE from India, though he has many years of experience working and teaching in the West.

Among the numerous activities at the event were ones that featured English as their main form of communication. Thanks to this, international students, foreign instructors, and all guests of the celebration who wanted to speak English were able to feel they could take full participation in the events.

From Turkey to Moscow by Way of Prague

Levent Çelik recently joined the Higher School of Economics as Assistant Professor of Economics. Before arriving at the HSE, he was Assistant Professor of Economics at CERGE-EI in Prague from 2006 to 2014. Professor Çelik’s research interests include industrial organization (with a focus on information disclosure, advertising, product differentiation and consumer search), international trade, and political economy.

Before arriving at the HSE, he was Assistant Professor of Economics at CERGE-EI in Prague from 2006 to 2014. Professor Çelik’s research interests include industrial organization (with a focus on information disclosure, advertising, product differentiation and consumer search), international trade, and political economy. He received a B.A. in Economics at Boğaziçi University in 2000, and an M.A. in 2002. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics, which he received at the University of Virginia in 2007.

Dr. Dina Balalaeva, who will begin a tenure-track position at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the HSE in September, recently completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the HSE. She received her PhD in Political Science at the State University of New York at Binghamton in 2013. She agreed to speak with the HSE news service about her decision to make her career at the HSE and her plans for future research and teaching.
